About Marion County, West Virginia

Discover age-old mountain heritage. Create memories among the mountains. Share your stories. Relive the frontier in a real restored fort. Walk relics of the past. Paddle over rolling waterfalls.

Marion County’s distinct charm comes from old-fashioned values. Enjoy Southern hospitality as you explore our pristinely preserved rolling landscape, trace our deep historic roots, and share our time-honored Appalachian traditions.

Delve in deeper into Marion County culture at the folklife center, the many historic museums, or the living history museum, where you can even chat with Colonial characters as they craft supplies for the 18th Century fort. Charming Victorian architecture, original covered bridges and wartime memorials  still stand across the county as reminders of our ancestry.

Follow our Italian roots straight into the flavorful pastas and seafoods, or the state favorite, our own specialty, the pepperoni roll. Our Italian recipes have been handed down generations, and the eateries have been community staples for years, as have our hot dog stands and classic diners.

You and your memories can be part of this charming chronicle. Meet us in Marion County, the crossroads between your stories and ours.

  2. Been going to Fairmont, WV every summer for the past 16 years. Some of the best people in the world, best food and ice cream in the world and some of the prettiest scenery you will see anywhere. I think John Denver must have had Marion County in mind when he wrote “Almost Heaven, West Virginia”

    • Pat,
We couldn’t agree more! But the way, Dairy Creme Corner is now open and serving the largest ice cream cones in Marion County. And if you are looking for a different sweet treat, Colasessano’s also serves gelato.
Hope you visit soon to enjoy the many flavors of Marion County!

The food alone is worth a visit to Marion County, WV – home of the original pepperoni roll. But once you add great attractions like Pricketts Fort State Park, Valley Falls State Park, Heston Farm Winery and all the fairs, festivals and special events we are a great destination.

      Hope to see you soon!
